School Furniture, Lockers, Books and More Up for Grabs
P.S.1 Charter School in Denver is closing at the end of the school year and would like to get all of its good stuff into the hands of schools that can and will use it.  P.S.1 will have furniture, lockers, books, cabinets, and more available.  Email P.S.1 with your wish list at llaffoon@ps1charterschool.org or visit the school between March 30th and April 1 from 1:00-4:00pm to see what they have. Claimed items must be picked up during the second or third weeks of June (or before in some cases) as P.S.1 has to be out of the building by the end of June.

2011 Colorado Charter Schools Essay Contest

Chuggin' for Charters

Run, jog, walk, or volunteer with the Colorado League of Charter Schools at the 2011 Kaiser Permanente Colfax Marathon on Sunday, May 15. Simply register for the Colfax Marathon (as a runner or volunteer), then collect pledges. Monday's hearing was the second Adams 12 special hearing in four months regarding construction plans for the school; both were requested by Broomfield. Broomfield City Council unanimously opposed separate sets of constructions plans for Prospect Ridge dating back to Nov. 9, but only the Adams 12 board has authority to reject them under Colorado's charter school law.

The Capital Construction Assistance Board this week reviewed grant applications from across the state seeking $366.4 million in grants from the Building Excellent Schools Today (BEST) financial assistance fund.

Tough budget decisions demand context

The current year DPS budget shows a total of $886 million in operational expenses, including almost exactly half given directly to district schools. Combining charter and contract schools, along with school support, brings the total to 94 percent ($837 million). Ten million represents a roughly 1.25 percent cut against projected 2.2 percent enrollment (nearly 1,700 more students), about $350 less per pupil.

KIPP student selected for an 11-day, expenses paid educational tour to Peru

EF Educational Tours - March 22, 2011

KIPP Denver student, Louie Luna, has been named Global Citizen Scholarship recipient, by EF Educational Tours. KIPP Denver partnered with EF on this project. By incorporating EF's prompt into the curriculum KIPP earned one of just 20 total scholarships given to students from across the U.S. Louie will travel on an 11-day, expenses paid EF Educational Tour to Peru.  The trip departs on June 20th when Louie will meet his fellow scholarship winners in Miami before continuing on to Lima, Peru.
